Vision 

Greek Customs Service intends to provide:

• new, faster and safer electronic services to the enterprises in a modern electronic environment for Customs and traders,
• constant improvement of the provided services to the traders combining sensitivity to the needs of society and simultaneously ensuring the fiscal interests,
• to create a climate based on mutual trust between Public Administration and the Citizen,
• continuous education and training of employees and the expansion of their skills, since the value of social and economic factors is measured by the acquisition, production and dissemination of new knowledge, as well as the immediate and flexible adaptation of know-how in the new productive processes and organizational structures,
• further transparency enhancement and shielding by standardized procedures,
• substantial contribution to reduce the pathogenesis of trade against phenomena that lead to aberrations, which might endanger the health and safety of citizens and cause shocks to the economy and the legitimate trade.

Fulfilling the vision of the Customs Service requires the commitment of all of us that, in terms of everyday action, efforts will be ongoing and uninterrupted and based on systematic and intensive cooperation. Cooperation performs at both levels in-service and with the economic operators, so that the new integrated Strategic Plan of the Customs Service to emphasize the change of attitude and extroversion.
 

Mission
 

Developments in the economic field made indispensable the modernization of the Customs Service as well as the augmentation of its effectiveness so that it can meet the new challenges.

The role the Customs Service plays in the trade domain, is unquestionably critical not only at a national but also at an international level. It is necessary to be noted that the globalization of the trade promises the economic growth and prosperity. However, before anything else, it should be ensured transparency, equal treatment of economic operators to avoid distortion of the conditions of the fair competition and controls without hampering the smooth circulation of the goods.

The above factors are components of the mission of the Customs Service that has gone beyond the narrow traditional limits of its role as a simple fiscal mechanism. Nowadays the Customs Service focuses its efforts to facilitate the commercial transactions, without omitting to prove in practice its interest to protect the society.   Briefly, the General Directorate of Customs and Excise Duty has as a mission:

• to  develop customs policy,
• to make fiscal policy as far as the assessment and the collection of national and Community revenue are concerned,
• to check the compliance with the prohibitions and restrictions on imported / exported and under any customs regime lying goods,
• to protect the economic-social field, internal market and European Union (E.U.) customs territory are included, in collaboration with the respective customs administrations of its state-members.

Particularly, the General Directorate of Customs and Excise Duty is administration in charge of the implementation and compliance with the regulatory and statutory provisions relating to the movement of persons, goods and vehicles entering and exiting the Greek customs territory that is also a Community customs territory. The Customs Service acts in various fields by performing two cardinal roles, the Fiscal-Economic and the Social one.
