Meeting of representatives of Chemical and Customs Services from 27 countries and European Organizations, ECICS WORKSHOP, (Athens, 19-21/11/2024)

IAPR hosted the workshop entitled "ECICS WORKSHOP: 50 years' experience and future" organized by the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission DG TAXUD EU Economy and Finance in Athens, on 19-20/11, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the European Customs Inventory of Chemical Substances ECICS.

Seventy-four (74) representatives of Chemical and Customs Services from 27 countries, the European Commission, leading organizations such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD – OCDE), the European Chemicals Agency, the European Union Drugs Agency, the Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals and industry stakeholders participated.

Participants discussed their experiences using ECICS and exchanged views on future developments, challenges in the classification of chemical products, risks from chemicals, etc.

The Governor of IAPR, Giorgos Pitsilis, opened the proceedings and awarded a commemorative coin to Hervé Schepers, as a small recognition of his contribution to ECICS. Welcome speeches were delivered by the Head of DG Taxud, Mr. Gerassimos Thomas, the General Director of Customs and Excise, Mr. Konstantinos Mourtidis, and the General Director of the State’s General Chemistry, Ms. Sofia Zisi.

The two-day event closed with the celebration of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the State’s General Chemistry Laboratory, and earlier on the same day there had been a guided tour of the chemical laboratories of IAPR.
