Chemical dispersants for oil spills

Chemical Oil Spill Dispersants are liquid chemical mixtures used to break up oil spills and which act by reducing the surface tension of the oil-water system.

The General Chemical State Laboratory is responsible for the granting of "type-approval" of 3G chemical dispersants at the request of interested parties accompanied by a dossier containing the information referred to in JMD No: 5219/Φ .11/4/2000, Article 4.  

Any approval  granted shall be notified to the Marine Environment Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and to the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
