The General Chemical State Laboratory as a member of the Customs Laboratories European Network

The General Chemical State Laboratory is an active member of The Customs Laboratories European Network. This network includes the laboratories of all member states that support customs authorities and operates under the auspices of the Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD). The task of the laboratories is to provide laboratory, scientific and technical support to the customs authorities, other prosecuting authorities as well as competent authorities for the movement of products. In particular, the laboratory and technical work of the laboratories provides a contribution to the following areas:

  • Tariff description of goods and application of any other policy or measure resulting therefrom, such as implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy, imposition of tax measures including excise duties, trade measures, e.g. anti-dumping duties.
  • Control of various dangerous or prohibited substances and preparations
  • Combating the smuggling and illicit trafficking of prohibited substances, e.g. drugs
  • Combating fraud and adulteration. Authenticity
  • Consumer health protection
  • Environmental Protection
  • Fight against terrorism
  • Ensuring the integrity of borders
