Toys
Toys, pursuant to the applicable legislation and with any exceptions invoked, are products designed or intended, exclusively or not, to be used for playing by children under the age of 14.
The Joint Ministerial Decree No. 3669/194/5.4.2011 on "Adaptation of Greek Legislation to Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and the Council, concerning the safety of toys", (OGG B΄549), as has been modified and applies to the safety of games. According to article 4 thereof, the urgent national competent authority shall be the Ministry of Development and Investments, General Secretariat of Industry, General Directorate of Industry & Business Environment.
The General Directorate of the State General Chemical Laboratory is included in the market surveillance authorities, as the competent authority for the official control for the safety of toys in terms of chemical risks, as it is the state laboratory for controlling toys for their chemical properties.
The toy legislation, as defined in the individual provisions, shall apply without prejudice to the REACH and CLP Regulations. The Joint Ministerial Decree No. 3669/194/5.4.2011 and its amendments appear on the website of the General Secretariat for Industry
Without prejudice to the current legislation, as regards erasers with children's performances and/or form that attract children, the general opinion of the Supreme Chemical Council issued the Ministerial Decree No. 460/2009 on "Characterization as safe or not samples of erasers with a high content in phthalates" (ΦΕΚ 1271/Β/29.6.2009).
