Practice of the marine chemist profession
Following the publication on 2/7/2011 of Law 3919/2011, "Principle of professional freedom, abolition of unjustified restrictions on access to and exercise of professions", (Government Gazette 32/A/2011), the license to practise the marine chemist profession is no longer issued.
According to Article 3 of Law 3919/2011, from 3/7/2011 the marine chemist profession is exercised freely after a period of three months from the announcement of its commencement, accompanied by the legal documents for the certification of the compliance with the legal conditions, in the Directorate of Energy Industrial and Chemical Products – Section A.

TITLE OF SUPPORTING DOCUMENT:
- Certified photocopy of a Chemistry degree for chemists or a TEE licence for chemical engineers. In the case of a qualification from non-EU institutions, a certificate issued by DOATAP or an equivalent institution of an EU Member State is also required, showing that the degree is equivalent and equivalent to those awarded by the respective EU institutions.
- Certification of the candidate's experience.
- Copy of a duplicate fee collection of one hundred and seventy-seven (177.00) Euros of the State Treasury.
COMMENTS:
Certificates of Experience
A) The certificates of experience will be issued either by Marine Chemists who already have the right to practice the profession or by ship repair companies. The certificate shall state that the applicant has at least one year's experience in inspecting hazardous gases on ships and floating constructions. The number of tankers, which the candidate should have inspected, will be at least sixty (60) different from each other.
Among these tankers, five (5) will be chemical cargo and one will be a liquefied gas tanker. The aforementioned certificate will be accompanied by a calendar of examined tankers which will include:
- date / time of inspection
- tanker name
- registration number
- anchorage
- name of master
- premises examined
The logbook will be signed for each tanker examined by the shipping chemist who already has the right to practise the profession or responsible for the shipbuilding base.
B) Candidates who have a certificate of experience of at least one year at
a station of the Hellenic Navy or from Oil Refineries must, in addition,
have inspected in cooperation with a marine chemist who already has the right to practise the profession or at a ship repair baseof thirty (
30) at least tankers different from each other.
Of the tankers, these two (2) will be chemical cargo and one will be a liquefied gas tanker. And in the case of the Naval Base, the candidate will fill in the calendar of ships as above..
For refineries, the units inspected by the candidate, such as tanks, containers, reactors, pipes, etc. will be listed.
C) Until the issuance of an updated list, only the Marine Chemists listed below are entitled to issue certificates of experience to candidates for the chemical shipping profession
